The Chopperz is a Swiss jazz-fusion / new jazz band founded and led by Charles Della Maestra, bringing together four musicians from the music academies of Basel and Lausanne. Having been active together for several years, they develop a collective approach centered on groove, listening, and improvisation.
Their repertoire sits at the intersection of composition and interaction. Built around a structured rhythm section (piano/synth, electric bass, drums) and a saxophone–trumpet front line, the group favors a direct approach, with particular attention to rhythmic precision and the fluid exchange of roles within the ensemble.
The compositions, mostly written by Charles Della Maestra, form the foundation of the project. Rather than fixing a rigid form, they provide flexible frameworks designed to be shaped and transformed by the musicians. Their sound draws inspiration from artists such as Snarky Puppy, Yussef Dayes, and Panam Panic, as well as from the legacy of the Brecker Brothers, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea.
Within this perspective, The Chopperz develops a musical language that relies as much on composition as on performance. The group is less concerned with showcasing virtuosity than with building a cohesive ensemble sound, balancing recognizable influences with the search for a distinct identity.

The collective
Between precision and instinct.
